Early Childhood Educator • Caribbean Author • Mother of Four
Nichelle James St. Helen is a passionate Caribbean children’s book author and early childhood educator with over 22 years of experience nurturing young minds. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Nichelle has a deep love for storytelling. Nichelle blends education and imagination to help children see the beauty in their roots and the wonder of the world around them.
She is the proud owner and director of a thriving preschool in the Bay Area, where play-based learning and cultural pride are at the heart of every lesson. Her experience in the classroom has shaped her belief that every child deserves stories that reflect their heritage, spark curiosity, and build confidence.
Nichelle is the creative force behind the Let’s Tour the Caribbean series, an educational and vibrant introduction to island life through the eyes of young explorer, Shurla. Her writing celebrates Caribbean culture, geography, and storytelling traditions—while helping children everywhere fall in love with learning.
At home, Nichelle is a devoted wife and mother to four wonderful children: Asher, Violet, Judah, and Levi. She lives with her family in the Bay Area, where the spirit of the islands lives on in her kitchen, garden, and bookshelf.
When she’s not writing or teaching, Nichelle loves being active in her church community, gardening, cooking Caribbean meals, painting, and curling up with a good book.
